THE REFLECTIONS OF WEUSI 2021
“The Weusi Artist Collective was established in Harlem in 1965; fueled by the Civil Rights’ movement activism and “Black is beautiful” consciousness of that era. The Weusi Artist Collective dedicated themselves to bringing the roots of the African and African American experiences to the community through arts as the vehicle of engagement.
The inspired Weusi artists celebrated Black: the people, the culture, and the everyday life. The artists’ keenly aware of their place in history and the political mandates of the time, advocated, reflected, and highlighted African and African American aesthetic contributions. They harnessed their energy as a family to create spaces and outlets for expression and participation to produced important bodies of work"
