Born in the mountains of southwest Nigeria Doba credits his mother, who was a talented and prolific dancer, as the fundamental force behind his flair for expression. Doba studied at the Zaria Art School and adopted the avant-garde. While in school he was one of the “Zaria Rebels,” known for their experimental style and bold color palette. He also spent some time teaching art at Yaba Technical College, in Lagos, Nigeria before emigrating to NYC. He is currently based in Brooklyn. Doba has been an annual presence at the Florida International University Black History Month art show. Recent exhibitions included Amsterdam Whitney Gallery in NYC, Guinea Conakry, Art Basel and Dorsey’s Art Gallery.
